Pilots provide professional and safe pilotage of ships entering the Port of Geelong. Pilot services are available 24/7.
Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels over 35 metres LOA (length over all) bound for, or leaving, berths in the Port of Geelong, except for exempted coastal vessels.
Pilots require 24-hours notice of a ships ETA and its deepest draft. Changes in ETA of more than one hour should be amended immediately, and the final ETA must be confirmed four (4) hours before arrival.
The pilot boarding ground for Port Phillip Bay is 3 to 5 miles south-west from the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse.
The boarding ground for Westernport is 3.5 miles due south of West Head
Pilotage services are provided by Port Phillip Sea Pilots. Full details about pilot services and operations can be found on the Port Phillip Sea Pilots web site.
